MarTia's NuMarket Campaign Launch

Dear MarTia’s Cakes community,

I am excited to announce the launch of my crowdfunding campaign on NuMarket! As many of you know, a commercial kitchen has been a goal of mine for some time. I have operated MarTia’s Cakes from my home and that is no longer sustainable. Recently, my business has expanded with growing corporate orders and increased weekly custom orders. I have gone from filling six to eight small dessert orders a month to adding large orders for 250 - 300 cake jars in the mix and with requests for multiple custom cakes weekly. I needed to move to a commercial space but was hesitant to jump to a store front because of the high start-up costs. I am excited to announce that I found the space to take my business to the next level in a new commercial kitchen in Westwood, MA.

Unlike other shared kitchens near me, I have my own ‘kitchen suite’ that is accessible 24 hours a day and will allow me to meet the demands of increased corporate orders, vending opportunities and recurring sales. It provides the space I need to operate more efficiently without the labor and overhead of moving into a storefront. My new space will also give me the opportunity to expand my community activities such as the baking/decorating classes for the youth and supporting programs for seniors. I need to purchase a commercial convection oven, a refrigerator, a freezer, and a mixer. Your contribution will help cover the costs of rent, equipment, inventory and supplies for my new location. And the bonus is for every $100 you contribute to the campaign you get $120 in-store credits. You can support my small business and get my delicious baked goods. It’s a win win!

I developed a passion for baking at a very young age when I took on the role of being one of my grandmother’s sous chefs. She baked all of the delicious treats from scratch for Sunday dinners, holidays and other family events. Being in the kitchen with Granny - as we affectionately called her - sparked my passion for baking and as she grew older, I took on the mantle and quickly became the go-to sweet maker in my family. As an adult, baking was how I relieved stress from my busy and hectic work schedule - a passion which resulted in a lot of free desserts for my family and friends. During a lengthy layoff in 2008, I was encouraged by my family to turn this hobby into a side hustle and from there MarTia's Cakes (named after my daughters MARtina and LaTIA) was born.

I started the business making simple, traditional desserts from the recipes my grandmother and aunts passed down to me. Through baking and decorating classes, MarTia’s Cakes has evolved into a dessert boutique that specializes in custom celebration cakes and classic desserts. I bake everything from my much requested pound cakes to custom celebration cakes to wedding cakes. I continue to use the family recipes but also enjoy testing new flavor combinations and cake ideas. Many of my clients have been here since the beginning. They have witnessed the growth and continue to support this business. I take pride in the fact that they trust us to provide desserts for their big events, small celebrations and special moments.

I'm reaching out to you, my loyal community, to ask for your support in helping me achieve this important milestone for my business. Your contribution will not only help me purchase the necessary equipment and supplies, but it will also help me to expand my business and reach more people in the community. Please consider contributing to my campaign. Every contribution counts and your support is greatly appreciated.
